Who am I?
I am, at my core, a very creative individual. I started my post-secondary studies in the arts, and I have always been drawn to creative pursuits. I have a passion for design, and I love to create things that are both beautiful and functional. I am also a very analytical person, and I enjoy solving problems and finding solutions to complex issues. I am a quick learner, and I am always looking for new challenges to take on.
In high school, my favourite subjects were fine art and math... I know, a strange combination! I loved the creativity and self-expression that came with art, and I loved the logic and structure that came with math. I was always drawn to the idea of combining these two seemingly opposite disciplines, and I found that web development was the perfect way to do that.
When I was in middle school in small-town southwestern Ontario, my dad showed me how to build a simple website using HTML tables and CSS. In the years that followed, I customized my MySpace page (RIP) and used arbitrary CMS software to build websites for my inner circle. I was never introduced to programming in studies before post-secondary, so once I discovered that I could build websites from scratch using code, I was hooked. The concept of dynamic versus static web applications when integrated with databases and APIs completely solidified my goal of becoming a web developer.
Programming is the perfect combination of creativity and logic. I love the challenge of solving complex problems and the satisfaction of seeing my code come to life. I am constantly learning and growing as a developer, and I am excited to see where this journey takes me.
What do I do outside of programming?
When I'm not coding, I enjoy disconnecting from all screens and spending time with my friends, family, and pets. I also love discovering new music and going to concerts. I am a huge fan of live music, and I try to see as many shows as I can. I also enjoy reading, writing, and drawing. I find that these creative pursuits help me to relax and recharge after a long day of coding.
Since moving to BC in 2023, I do my best to take advantage of the beautiful natural surroundings and explore with my partner and dogs. I find that spending time in nature helps me to clear my mind and find inspiration for my work.
